Beautiful thoughts...
I have come across a lot of race related incidents lately that do not sit well with me. Yes, we live in a diverse country. We live in a country where many race groups are expected to live together and get along with one another. This is not always easy though, but it is something we strive towards every day.
So, as I was on Twitter the other day, I came across a few tweets that were aimed at Coloured people, but there was a certain tweet that really caught my attention. It read something like this: ‘I am not racist, because racism is a crime, and crime is for Coloured people.’ I looked at this tweet for a while and thought about replying to the person, but I knew my response would not be a well thought out one, since I was rather upset. And after a while, I just decided not to say anything.
But I kept thinking about it though. And the more I thought about it, the more it annoyed me. Yes, there was nothing I could do about someone else’s thinking, or lack thereof. Yes, that was their messed up opinion and there was nothing I could do to change that. But it saddened me. It saddened me that with all the opportunities the youth have at their disposal, and with all the education we have, we still lack common sense. I guess sense is not so common after all then.
At the end of the day, we all have our differences, but why can we not embrace them?
Why do we have to be mean and slander other races every chance we get? Why can we not look at ourselves first before we point a finger at others? Nothing will ever be perfect. We are not perfect beings. But with talk like that, we will never move forward.
Today I realized that common sense is not common after all. Today I realized that it really does not take much for someone to say something stupid without thinking twice about it. Today I realized that it is easier to put others down than it is to lift them up. Today I realized that that our thoughts really do manifest into our words and our actions. We are what we think. And that in itself is a scary thought.
Today, as you go on your way, try extra harder to be a little nice to someone. It really won’t take as much effort as being mean to them, and it might actually make you feel a little better about yourself too.
Ugly is not attractive. Ugly thoughts manifest into ugly words which in turn manifest into ugly actions and eventually, you become an ugly person.
Start being beautiful today. Start with those beautiful thoughts.
