The Angels we call Friends.
What is the meaning of the word friend?
Now,if you go to a dictionary or Google this word, you will get answers like 'a person who is attached to another by feelings of personal regard or affection' or 'a person who is on good terms with another, a person who is not hostile'. So in essence,a friend is the opposite of a foe.
When I look back at past 'friendships',I realize that even in friendship,we have to kiss a few frogs first to get to the real deal. We have to experience the backstabbers and the naysayers before we find the true ones. Those backstabbers and naysayers are the ones who try and harm us and at times do,but only temporarily. They do however, show us what we deserve. By showing their ugliness, they open doors for others to show off their beauty.
Two days ago, my friends and I all had a bad day. We had each fought our separate battles that day and came home feeling defeated. As soon as we entered our little chat room and shared our stories, it was one depressing story after the other. One depressing feeling after the other. But then, as if we all had an awakening, we started encouraging each other. We spoke of the Lord and His good works. We spoke of how fortunate we were to have overcome the challenges (although it did not feel that way to us).
For a while I sat back and smiled and said a silent prayer to God for blessing me with friends who were not afraid to thank Him for fighting our battles. Ladies who knew that without prayer, they were empty vessels. Strong women who knew that their strength came from a higher power. Women who were not afraid to say 'I cannot do this on my own'. My heart smiled and at that moment, I knew why they were placed in my life.
This post was not meant to be a sermon, but I wanted to thank my friends for their inspiration. We all need friends we can have stimulating conversation with. We need to be able to talk about more than boys and clothes. We need those women (or men) who will help us see our potential and encourage us to make our dreams our reality. The women I call friends are so different. Each one unique. Each one crazy in her own right. Each one special.
Today my inspiration came from beautiful women. Smart women. Career women. My friends. Thank you doesn't seem enough but I will say it anyway. Thank you. For making me a better person. Today, text all your friends and say thank you for the role they play in your life. Do it today. Tomorrow is not promised.
Take care of your friends.
