Medicine for a paining heart...
My sister always tells me funny stories about the things her children say. I have told her that we need to write some of these things down and remind them of this one day. So last night, she sends me a bbm and tells me about the latest episode with her son, Kyle (4). He went to the Doctor recently and received medicine, so as she was giving him his medicine last night, she decided that it was not necessary to give him his pain and fever syrup. Concerned, he picked up the bottle and asked ‘And this one Mommy?’ She told him that he need not take that one, to which he quickly responded ‘It’s paining here’ (pointing to his heart). My sister asked him ‘Where is it paining?’ and he replied ‘My heart, now give me the medicine please’.
I could help but smile when she told me about this. Kids truly say the most precious things. So, this morning when I woke up and I still found myself thinking about it, I knew I had to write about it today. As I picked up Aunt Hilda and we drove to work, I told her about it. She and I had a good laugh in the car and then discussed the ‘heart paining’ part. I looked to her and said, ‘Aunt Hilda, Kyle should be careful about what he says, he really does not want to know what a heart that pains feels like’. Again, we laughed about it and then Aunt Hilda said ‘My child, he really does not want to know. Life is weird. At that moment when you experience heart break, it really feels like your heart is paining, and there is no pill that can take that pain away.’ I could relate to this, and I know everyone else can too. We have all had our hearts broken at some point in our lives, and we have all felt like it was broken into a million little pieces. Whether it was the pain of a break up, or losing someone you love to death, it was heart break nonetheless and it felt like our hearts were literally paining.
At the end of the day, loss is loss. We deal with it in different ways. We experience different kinds of loss. But our hearts always feel it the most. Our hearts always pain. Today, my heart is paining too, but I know in time, it will heal. You see, God gives us battles because He knows we are able to fight them. He will never send us to battle without the correct armour on. He sends us only when we are prepared to fight and win. He does not guarantee that we won’t get hurt or come out with a few bruises and scratches, but He knows we will make it. And that is what we have to cling too. We are yet to discover how strong we are, but He already knows, that is why He has so much faith in us.
So today soldier, when your heart is paining, remember, you still have a heart because you made it through the battle. God is going to heal you and give you medicine for that heart, and in time, you will be stronger and braver than before. He knows the plans he has for us. We are yet to discover them.
Do not lose hope. Keep the faith.
Your heart is paining now, but in time, that too shall pass Soldier!!
Take Care
