You still Hold'er
Today is another appreciation day. I want to take the time out and appreciate someone who has been in my life for almost 4 years now. This man has held on when the road was so bumpy, I even fell down. He has been scarred and hurt because at times the terrain was so harsh, no one would survive it, but he did. Today, I want to take the time out and appreciate someone God sent.
I remember the day I met him. I was at a popular hangout spot. That night, my friend and I searched and searched for a party. We wanted to have fun and we made sure we would find a place where we could have it. After about 3 stops, we finally found a spot that seemed to be alive. So, we went in and danced the night away. A few hours later, with sore feet and tired eyes, we decided to call it a night and headed for the door. As we walked out, I saw a man surrounded by people. They were all asking him questions about music and the music industry. I figured it was the Canadian DJ who was in town. So, I continued walking, and then suddenly, there was a car driving beside me. The same man I saw at the door was sitting in this car smiling back at me. The driver was asking several questions but I really had no time to answer them all. After exchanging names and the basic courtesies, I got into my car and drove home. Little did I know, that would be the first day of a beautiful journey.
My Sunday evening ended with a shout out on radio from this DJ and my Mom asking me 101 questions about who he was and why he was saying hello to me on radio. I had very few answers.
Today though, I know him so well, I could tell you anything you ask me about him. That is what time affords us. It is gives us the opportunity to learn things about people. It gives us the chance to spend time with people and get to know them for who they are, and not for what society portrays them as. Time, when used wisely, gives us so much. Time with this man, has taught me that he is sensitive and vulnerable at times, but also strong and brave. Time with him has shown me that he is a fighter. He fights for what he believes in. He fights for what is right. He fights for those who need him. He fights for the weak. Time with this man has shown me that he is love epitomised and oh so caring. He is funny and just a ball of energy. He is smart and creative. He is music. He feeds the soul and heals it too.
Today, I am inspired by a man who lives, laughs and loves hard. Today I am inspired by a man who teaches without trying to. Today, I am inspired by a man I never would have imagined would enter my life, but he did and he has stayed.
We are quick to slander men and say how useless they are. But we never appreciate the ones who are good to us. We never thank the ones who love and protect us. But today, I want to thank you. I want to thank all the men who do what they have to in order to protect the ones they love. I want to thank all the men who wake up in the morning and work from dusk ‘til dawn to put food on the table for their families. I want to thank the men who are fathers to their children and good men to their women. I want to thank the men who feel like giving up but never do, because they know there are people who rely on them. I want to thank the men who hold on and stay strong when no one will blame them for letting go.
And today, I want to thank you for having held on. I am Holding on too because you were Holding her when times were tough. And you still Hold’er. Feeding her soul with the music you make. You still Hold’er.
Thank you.
Take Care
