I am thankful...

So my birthday is coming up and I think my girlfriends are more excited than I am for this day.
Thinking of it all, I am happy and feel so blessed. I am a few days away from becoming a year older and certainly a year wiser.

Last year was a tough one. It was one of many lessons learned and many bridges burnt. One of the most important lessons I learned was the value of friendship. Sometimes friends come and go, it is life, it happens to the best of us, but now I know how important it is to hold onto the ones that are worth keeping around. You can try and act tough and tell yourself that you do not need friends around, but that is a lie. We all need a friend or two. There are just some things that you cannot share with your parents or siblings, things that you can only share with your girlfriends. Friendship is important.

So today, when I was discussing my birthday plans with the girls, I kept thinking of all the times we spent together. The times we laughed until our stomachs hurts. I thought about the times we danced until our feet could dance no more. I thought about the times we stood up for each other because at those moments when we were facing the world and its ugliness, we knew we were more than just friends, we were sisters. We are sisters. When we were busy making birthday plans, I knew that no matter where we are on that day or what we do, I will have an amazing day, because I will be spending it with my sisters.

You see, it is not about the gifts you receive on your birthday. You may be older, but the important thing is, have you learnt something that has changed you for the better? Have you grown not only in years, but spiritually too? Have you realized what truly matters in life is not always that that money buys, but rather that which money cannot buy? Have you grown? Do you have special people to share your day with?

I have a feeling this birthday will be a special one.

Today, there is no great inspirational story. Today I am merely a thankful Soul. I am thankful for all that I have and all that I am blessed with.

Remember, to always give thanks for the years that you have been blessed with. Years to grow. Years to learn. Years to give thanks. Years to be thankful. I am certainly thankful for mine.

Take Care
