That which is wasted will never be returned...
Waste. To neglect to use. To destroy or consume gradually. To wear away. To use to no avail or profit. That is what a dictionary would tell us about this word. Waste can also refer to rubbish, trash, or something that is unwanted or uncultivated. This word can be used in so many contexts. This is a simple five lettered, one syllable word, but it carries so much weight. We carry it around with us everywhere we go. Sometimes, we do not even realize it.
We have been given Life. Some people are not as fortunate. Some lose theirs too soon, when they still have so much to live for. While others are fortunate enough to hold onto theirs for years, yet, they waste it. I cannot decide which is more heart-breaking. A young life gone too soon, or a life that is given but is wasted. We live long lives but do not cultivate them. We waste our lives because we lack determination. We lack motivation. We lack dedication. Which is more heart-breaking? A young life gone too soon, or a long life that is given but is wasted?
When we neglect to use the chances and opportunities that are presented to us, we slowly destroy ourselves. We deprive ourselves from functioning at our optimal levels. We deprive ourselves from reaching our full potential. We deprive ourselves from laughing until our stomachs hurt and loving with all we have. When we do not feel with every fibre in our body, what is it that we truly feel? Do we feel at all? Why waste feelings? Why do we not allow ourselves to see, hear, touch or experience with all we have? Many cannot see colours, yet we do not appreciate the beauty of God’s Earth. Many cannot hear, yet we do not listen. Why do we waste that which we have been blessed with?
Sometimes we are so spoiled and used to getting things on a silver platter, that when opportunities are presented to us, we are too lazy to fight for them. We waste opportunities, we waste moments in time, we waste life, and we treat it like garbage.
Are we living to waste? Are we living to die? I certainly hope not. We need to use all that we have in order to cultivate, in order to grow, in order to flourish. The only things we can afford to throw in the garbage are the negative things. That which brings us down. Not that which uplifts us.
Live your life. That which is wasted will never be returned.
Take care of your life.
Miss Stone.
