Sometimes it is okay to break things down.

We put up walls to keep people out. We try to keep them out of our world. We do this because we do not want them to see the burdens we are faced with. We do not want them to see the struggles we see. We do not want them to feel sorry for us.

So, we keep them out. We keep them out of our lives and out of our problems. We keep them out so that they may think everything is fine with us. We want them to think that the world is good to us, that we have no major problems. We want them to think that we are strong enough to overcome all the trials and tribulations we face. We want them to think that we are so strong, nothing can faze us.

We build walls to keep people out. We want them to think that we brave and strong. So we keep them out and hide the truth. We put on our brave faces and heavy armour, and although we feel like dying inside, we fight on our own so that no one can see us suffering.

But there are things we fail to realize. When we build walls with the aim of keeping people out, we also don’t allow their goodness to enter. Some people want to help us. They want to help make us feel better and do better. To some people, being kind comes naturally. And by building walls, we are preventing ourselves from seeing that kindness. We are shutting ourselves off from many things with the walls we build.  It may be fear or shame that makes us do this. We may think we do not deserve such kindness. But we do. We deserve it. And we have no right to shut everyone out.

We can be our own worst enemies at times. This comes naturally. But sometimes, we need to be nice to ourselves, and if we can’t be nice, we can at least allow others to be nice to us.

Soon the walls we have built to keep others out, will be the walls that shut us in and keep us away from everyone. Break down those walls before you are unable to get out.

We put up walls to keep people out.  At least that is what we tell ourselves. But I think sometimes we put up walls to shut ourselves in. We put up walls to shut ourselves off from the world.  We deserve better. We deserve better than those walls. Break them down.

Sometimes it is okay to break things down.

Take care.
